Living Stones
 By Michelle S. Lazurek

As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him— you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.  Peter 2:5

In the Old Testament, stones were used as a sign among the people and as a memorial to all God had done for the people. A pile of stones can also be used as a trail marker and to direct someone to the right direction on a trail. Often called a cairn, stones piled up help steer people in the right direction and help people remember not only where they’ve gone but also where they’re headed.

Since Jesus’ death and resurrection, He paved the way for his people to serve as living markers.
1 Peter 2:5 says, “As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him— you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” The community of believers, called koinonia, helps steer people in the right direction in their spiritual life. By getting together regularly, the community shares their stories of what God is doing in their lives, therefore helping each other grow in their faith.

Your story plays a vital role in the health of your church. By sharing your struggles openly with fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, they can share your burdens with you through prayer. Your stories help encourage or inspire someone who may be going through a similar situation as you.  Our stories are a testament of who God is. People remember who God is by who we are. These stories act as your trail maker on your journey towards salvation.

By meeting regularly with brothers and sisters in Christ, you act as a living reminder of Jesus’ activity in your life. What stories can you share with others to remind them of Jesus’ activity in your life?

Lord, thank You for allowing us to serve as living reminders of who You were, who You are and who You will always be.
