A religious drama with elements of romantic comedy, this light-on-its-feet tale of spiritual struggle is rarely anguished, even as the story focuses on a priest's crisis of faith. That shouldn't be a problem for viewers caught up in this well told, affecting tale. 4 out of 5.

A valiant attempt to revive the rom-com, Home Again can't quite seal the deal. With a few good laughs and moderately enjoyable awww moments, Reese Witherspoon's impeccable acting saves this movie from being completely forgettable. 3 out of 5.

Keeps Inspiration in Chains
Who thought this story was worth telling, much less filming? Director Michael Apted has made a career out of crossing genres effectively, from religious dramas to pioneering documentaries. He's also made his share of misfires, but it's hard to think of any Apted effort worse than Unlocked—an uninspired spy "thriller" that uses good actors in the service of a wholly unoriginal story. 1.5 out of 5.

Certainly Takes a Few along the Path to Dream Fulfillment
It's not today's standard animated fare, so it's got that going for it. French-made, Paris-based Leap! takes a Ratatouille-like road on its quest to turn a tweenage orphan into a ballerina. It might have been great if not for our creeping disbelief and some serious at-what-cost questions regarding dream pursuit. The film's in English but something's been lost in translation. 2.5 out of 5.

The best way to describe The Emoji Movie would be with an emoji of the very face its hero aspires to achieve: meh. So many good animated features have come along in recent years. An homage to the quiet bravery of ordinary people, this view of a remarkable real-life event is more survival adventure than war movie. Dunkirk assaults the senses but only occasionally tugs at the heartstrings. It's appealing without being epic, admirable but not quite amazing. 3.5 out of 5.

War for the Planet of the Apes
Long and unnecessarily drawn-out, War for the Planet of the Apes is getting a lot of hype from secular critics, but there is very little here for a Christian audience to appreciate. Unless you can handle extreme amounts of violence and blood or are a devoted fan of the franchise, sit this one out. 2 out of 5.
