A spunky girl living in foster care catches the attention of a wealthy businessman, who takes her in as part of a publicity stunt but soon falls for her charm. Through her optimism and resilience, she transforms his outlook on life and finds the family she's always wanted. Unlike the 1982 film or the 1977 Broadway production that was set during the Great Depression, this 2014 version was set during the modern day. Annie, if you didn't already know, is a musical. A courageous teenage girl with a gift for adventure ventures across the ocean once again, looking to save her people from extinction. It's the 2024 sequel to the 2016 blockbuster, both of which are set in a Polynesian culture and follow the story of a young girl, Moana, who rises as a leader to protect her people. Christian parents unfamiliar with the story should be aware: Both films incorporate a pantheon of deities, along with themes of spiritual connections to ancestors and nature. A woman caught between two warring nations flees to the United States after facing brutal persecution in Azerbaijan for her Armenian heritage. The film follows her and her family's harrowing journey through fear, displacement, and the hope of finally finding a place to call home. It is based on the true story of the Petrosyan family, who found themselves "between borders" in the late 1980s, caught in the upheaval of living in a Soviet satellite country during the collapse of the Soviet Union. A Roman military tribune tasked with finding the post-crucifixion body of Jesus embarks on an investigation that challenges everything he believes. In the film's final moments, he is confronted with the possibility that the resurrection is indeed real, forcing him to choose between his duty and newfound faith. While the story is largely historical fiction, the plot unfolds in a way that feels entirely plausible. Joseph Fiennes portrays the military tribune, Clavius. Rated PG-13 for biblical violence, including some disturbing images.
