Netflix is like a giant entertainment buffet, offering something for every appetite -- action-packed thrillers, laugh-out-loud comedies, gripping documentaries, kid-friendly favorites, and yes, even faith-affirming Christian movies.

And while Netflix may not be the first place families of faith turn for spiritual content, its growing catalog includes inspiring stories that uplift and point viewers to something greater.

Following are the best eight Christian movies on Netflix.

1. Big George Foreman

Big George Foreman and Muhammad Ali, things to know about 'Big George Foreman"

An out-of-shape, middle-aged ex-boxer comes out of retirement to raise money for his struggling youth center -- a place built to keep teens off the streets but now without electricity due to unpaid bills. First, though, he’ll need to get back in shape by losing some 60 pounds. The film tells the incredible true story of how faith, perseverance, and a second chance in the ring turned a boxing legend/preacher into a two-time champion who boldly proclaimed the name of Jesus. Rated PG-13 for some sports violence.

2. Blue Miracle

Blue Miracle, people fishing

An orphanage on the verge of closing fights to stay afloat by entering a prestigious deep-sea angling competition, the Bisbee’s Black & Blue Fishing Tournament. It’s based on a true story and follows the journey of the Casa Hogar orphanage and its manager, Omar, who partners with a washed-up fisherman with the hopes of striking it rich in the Bisbee’s. It’s a fun film with solid lessons about fatherhood, family, second chances, and resisting temptation. Blue Miracle is rated TV-PG and includes minor language. Clearplay and VidAngel offer filters.

3. The Forge

The Forge

An irresponsible young man drifting through life without purpose is drawn into a journey of discipleship under the guidance of a wise mentor. This 2024 hit movie was produced by the same filmmaking team, Alex and Stephen Kendrick, that made such faith-based hits as War Room, Overcomer and Fireproof. It stars Cameron Arnett, Priscilla Shirer and Karen Abercrombie. Newcomer Aspen Kennedy is excellent in the lead role. Although a stand-alone film, it includes some of the same characters as War Room. Rated PG for thematic elements.

Walk-on Brandon Burlsworth defies the odds through faith, hard work and relentless dedication to become an All-American football player for the Arkansas Razorbacks. Drafted in 1999 and poised for a promising NFL career alongside Peyton Manning, his inspiring story, though, takes a tragic turn. It’s based on a true story of a legendary player whose dedication is remembered each fall with the Burlsworth Trophy, given to college football’s best player who began his career as a walkon. Rated PG for thematic elements, some language and smoking. VidAngel offers a filter.

5. The Hill

A young boy with a degenerative spinal disease grows up to become a professional baseball player. It’s the true story of Rickey Hill, a pastor’s son who wore leg braces as a youngster and was bullied on the playground but, nevertheless, had a knack for hitting a baseball out of the park. Growing up with limited resources, Rickey honed his craft by using only a stick and a pile of rocks. Dennis Quaid portrays Rickey’s father. It has solid themes of perseverance, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Rated PG for thematic content, language and smoking throughout. Clearplay and VidAngel offer filters.

A young couple takes a perilous trip across rugged terrain, knowing she could give birth any day. This 2023 entertaining musical retold the Nativity story as perhaps no movie ever has, with singing and dancing set to upbeat modern music. It includes several names well-known in Christian music, including For King and Country’s Joel Smallbone, Christian hip hop artist Lecrae, and CCM singer Moriah. Adam Anders directed it. Like most Bible-based films, it’s a mixture of Scripture and creative license. Rated PG for thematic elements.

7. The Star

The Star film

A small donkey and his animal friends experience the greatest night in the history of mankind -- the birth of Christ. This 2017 animated film tells the Nativity story from the viewpoint of the animals as Mary and Joseph journey from Nazareth to their destination, Bethlehem. It includes the voices of Patricia Heaton, Zachary Levi, Mariah Carey and others. “People are going to remember this night,” one of the camels says. “What happened here around this manger will be celebrated for thousands of years. Families will come together and exchange presents and sing carols -- and all to remember the grace of this moment that we are witnessing right now.” Rated PG for some thematic elements.

8. A Week Away

Two main characters dancing in A Week Away, A Week Away still

A young man hardened by years in the foster system is given one last chance to turn his life around by attending a week-long summer camp. Unbeknownst to him, it’s a Christian camp -- filled with Bible lessons, worship services, and more rules than he’d prefer. But one thing does catch his interest: a girl his age who turns his head and just might change his perspective. This faith-based musical includes Disney-like upbeat dance numbers along with powerful messages straight out of Scripture. It remains a favorite in my household. Rated PG.
