‘County Rescue’ Stars Share How Filming Season 2 Strengthened Their Faith

Actors Kristen Wollett and Brett Varvel recently shared how filming for season 2 of "County Rescue," the first original series on Great American Family (GAF), deepened their faith. Speaking to Church Leaders in a recent interview, Kristin Wollet ("Dolphin Tale," "God's Not Dead: In God We Trust") and Brett Varvel ("American Underdog," "Disciples in the Moonlight") spoke about a significant moment that strengthened their trust in the Lord while filming for the season 2 of "County Rescue" last year.
"It was a real-life circumstance that was happening, so Kristen and her family live in Tampa, Florida," Varvel recalled. "While we're filming, Hurricane Helene came through at that time. And I kept asking Kris, '[Are] your husband and children okay? Like, is your house going to be there?'"
As the storm worsened, Wollett's family met her in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
"There I am at the hotel," Varvel explained. "I see Justin, Kristen's husband, their kids, and they just have this sense of peace and joy, not knowing if or when they go home [or if] their house is still going to be standing."
According to Varvel, seeing their "faith in action ministered to me. It showed me that we serve a God who we can trust, and even when the literal storms of life are going to be beating down on you that, we serve a God that we can trust."
"That's definitely an element that's in the show," Varvel added. "But it was a practical, real-life moment that we all experienced vicariously through their family. And it blessed me so immensely and then challenged me to go deeper in my trust with the Lord."
"Country Rescue," which debuted on GAF last year, looks at how paramedics and EMTs take on challenges in their lines of work. In addition to seeing the bravery of first responders in training, but also how their faith influences their choices. The show also stars actress Julia Reilly ("Stranger Things"), who plays the character Dani, while Wollett and Varvel play Ashley and Andy, respectively.
Season 2 of "Country Rescue" released last month (Feb. 23), with new episodes released Thursdays on GAF streaming platform while the show airs on Sunday nights on the Great American Family channel. Meanwhile, the entirety of season 1 can be streamed on Great American Pure Flix.
