Jesus is trending on YouTube.
The official trailer for Season 5 of The Chosen soared to No. 1 on YouTube's much-watched trending chart Thursday and remained there Friday, tallying more than 1 million views in less than 24 hours as fans gear up for a season with stories central to the gospels.

Set to Johnny Cash's God's Gonna Cut You Down, the trailer depicts Jesus entering Jerusalem on a donkey but also wielding a whip as He prepares to cleanse the temple by driving out merchants and money changers. The trailer also includes a scene of the Last Supper.
"I think this is our best trailer we've ever done. I think it's our best season we've ever done," creator and director Dallas Jenkins said during a livestream Thursday.
Season 5 will debut in theaters as part of a three-part film event, The Chosen: Last Supper. The three parts will roll out March 28, April 4 and April 11.
"Yes, it's sad and heartbreaking because we're getting closer to the cross, but we're also going to get to see some of the most iconic and deeply moving moments from Scripture," Jenkins wrote in a message to fans. "The triumphal entry, the turning of the tables, the betrayal by Judas, and the Last Supper...all set against the biggest backdrop and sets we've ever used with a new widescreen format that demands to be seen on the big screen. But of course, we continue our obsession to humanize and authenticate everyone involved. The table is set. I can't wait for you to see this in theaters."
The trailer was released the same week that the company behind The Chosen -- 5&2 Studios -- announced a partnership with Prime Video that will give that platform an exclusive 90-day streaming window for Season 5 before it is available for free on The Chosen app.

"Jerusalem is a powder keg with all of Jesus' followers, enemies, and over a million Passover pilgrims packed into one small place," Jenkins said of the new season. "He shows sides of Himself we've never seen till now -- turning over tables, literally cracking the whip, and weeping with heartbreak but also love. He also confuses His followers at every turn...and to what end? The takeaway for you from this season: Can you believe and follow even when you don't understand?"
