Receive God’s Favor - Beloved Women - April 17, 2024
READ: “And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” (Luke 1:43 ESV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: When you receive an unexpected blessing that you have been praying for, how do you respond? Do you praise God or question “how can this be?” In Luke 1:43, Elizabeth is greeted by her cousin Mary, the mother of Jesus and asks, “But why am I so favored?” She was excited to see Mary, but still didn’t understand how she could be the recipient of such a blessing. Sound familiar? Many times, God blesses us with unmerited favor and yet we do not fully receive it because we are trying to understand how it happened. The good news is that God’s favor transcends human understanding and our assignment is to simply receive.
Despite extraordinary circumstances, both Mary and Elizabeth received favor from the Lord. Mary was a virgin, but God blessed her with the miracle of Jesus. Elizabeth was of seasoned age, but God blessed her with a son, John the Baptist. Like Mary and Elizabeth, there are miraculous blessings that God will provide you. You may not understand why or how God’s favor manifests in your life, but I invite you to receive it with gratitude.
PRAY: Dear God, thank You for the ways in which You continue to bless me each day. Please help me to continue to praise You for the unmerited favor that You have shown me. In times when I have tried to understand it all, please forgive me and remind me that You are sovereign. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
REFLECT: What specific area in your life has God shown you favor in this season? How will you respond with gratitude?
