Never Alone in the Dark – Beloved Women – August 4, 2020
READ: “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” (John 14:18 ESV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: When I was little, being alone in the dark was one of my greatest fears. With the lights out, my imagination would take over, and although my sisters and parents slept literally feet away from me, I felt all alone and helpless. They were right there, but I couldn’t see them, and I let unfounded fear rob me of many a good night’s sleep.
Even today, I allow unfounded fear to rob me of the very real and present peace Jesus offers. John 14:18 records Jesus’ words, hours before He left this earth. Shaken, scared and soon to be separated from the One they loved, the disciples felt alone in a world about to be turned upside down. Jesus assured them He would not leave them as orphans, or comfortless. Thankfully, this promise is for all believers in Christ. God’s Holy Spirit, the Comforter, is always with us, dwelling with us and in us (John 14:17).
Mind-blowing! No matter how scary this world feels, we are never alone in the dark.
So today, kick peace-robbing fear to the curb! Christ has overcome the world (John 16:33) and is with us always to the end of the age! (Matthew 28:20)
PRAY: Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit. This world feels so scary at times, but You promise to be with me always. I am so grateful for Your guiding, comforting presence. Please help me to cling to You today.
In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
