When the Fire is Near - Beloved Women - January 17, 2020
READ: If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king (Daniel 3:17 ESV).
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: Living in Southern California has given me a new appreciation for the devastation caused by fire. Entire towns have burned to the ground. What the fire leaves in its wake is surreal. One of the most striking things is the smell of smoke - it is acrid and pervasive, making the threat of fire seem imminent.
The three Hebrew boys - Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego could feel the heat from the fire as they were brought before the king for not worshipping his golden image, yet they were willing to trust God. Fire is dangerous; they knew they were in danger of choosing to serve God. In spite of the fire they continued to serve God. They exhibited faith in the face of the fire regardless of the outcome to them. Serving God was worth it.
PRAY: Dear Heavenly Father, when the fire is near, help me to trust You regardless of the outcome. Help me to know that my hope in You is not in vain, and You will be with me in the fire, working it all for my good, just like You did for the three Hebrew boys. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
