A Friend Like Jesus - Beloved Women - January 22, 2020
READ: “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you.” (John 15:13-14 ESV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: Have you ever thought about being the friend of God? God is so awesome, so magnificent, so perfect—yet He wants to be our friend.
Friendships come in many ways and at different seasons of our lives. Many of us have a close friend or even a best friend. We would do almost anything for that friend. This scripture tells us that there is no greater love than laying down your life for a friend. But, can we really do that? Yes, we can. God gave His best for us, His son Jesus. Because of Jesus we can give our best to our friendships.
Take time today and think about the friendships you have. What ways can you nurture them, be intentional and thoughtful?
Maybe a friend needs to hear a kind word from you? Maybe they need to hear ‘I love you’. Maybe spending time with a friend for dessert and coffee is what’s needed. Whatever you may need to do, today, to be that friend, do that. Because, giving of your time may be the best way to lay down your life.
PRAY: God, help me today to lay down my life for a friend in my life. Help me to pay attention to the small things and the big things. Help me love as You love to a friend, to a stranger or to a family member. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray. Amen.
