Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Café Menu for Thursday, October 16, 2014

Today’s Special is: God Will Make a Way When There is No Way

Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Connie Hughey

Main Ingredient:

Don’t be afraid, I’ve redeemed you. I’ve called your name. You’re mine. When you’re in over your head, I’ll be there with you. When you’re in rough waters, you will not go down. When you’re between a rock and a hard place, it won’t be a dead end – Because I am God, your personal God, The Holy of Israel, your Savior.

Isaiah 43: 1b-3a The Message

Entrée:

Spending six weeks in ICU watching my son, John Mark, recover from major surgery left me feeling depleted in many ways. Prayer, listening to worship music and reading my Bible were lifelines that kept me going whenever I felt that I couldn’t go on.

One night I reached a breaking point when a complication from John Mark’s surgery seemed to have no resolution to it. So I opened my Bible. I needed an answer and I needed God’s help.

As I looked down at Isaiah 43 my heart immediately connected with the phrase when you are between a rock and a hard place, it won’t be a dead end. That was exactly how I felt at that very moment, as if we were at a dead end with no way out.

As the Holy Spirit quickened His word to my heart I realized that, while I thought all was hopeless, God was promising me that He knew the way out. I held on to that promise as we continued on with John Mark’s medical care.

And, you know what? The Lord did fulfill His promise to me! It took awhile for those medical complications to work themselves out, but eight years later those problems are long gone. There was no dead end.

God made a way when there was no way.

Take Out:

If you ever find yourself in a difficult situation and feel as if you have no way out of it, I encourage you to read Isaiah 43:1-3. Take God at His word. He will never let you down because He always keeps His promises.

Dessert:

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for being a faithful and trustworthy God. We are so thankful that You always keep Your promises. Help us to learn to depend more on You and Your Word whenever we face difficult situations.
