Un-Masking Isn't Easy, But It's Good - Encouragement Café - November 21, 2016

Un-Masking Isn't Easy, But It's Good

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by every cunning and craftiness of men and their deceitful scheming.  Ephesians 4:14 NIV

She's a big, fierce dog in a puppy's body.  Seriously!  We got a puppy a few months ago and she's hilarious!

She is going to be huge someday like her German Shepherd ancestors, but right now she has a lot of bark, but very little else to back it up.

Just the other day she was outside playing with our other dog, biting her and barking and acting like she was in charge.  Just then someone walked by our house.  Josie, the pup, made a beeline for the porch and hid behind me.

Her tough façade was gone and everyone knew it.

Don't we all do that sometimes?

It's easy to change our demeanor, emotions and "masks" depending on who is around or what our situation looks like.

Why is it so hard to be consistent with our emotions and especially our faith sometimes?

It's especially easy to allow strong feelings like fear, anger or jealousy cause us to act out and bring up some not so pleasant sides of ourselves.

We are human and Jesus knows human behavior because He lived it.  He was angry enough to turn over tables, sad enough to shed tears over Lazarus' death and He loved us enough to die for us.

The mask we wear is so hard to take off, isn't it?

We show others our best, but give loved ones our not-so-great selves.  The Lord loves us with or without masks because He see our hearts.

Today, let's give Him our heart and the masks we sometimes wear.  What freedom there is to be real with Jesus and not have to wear a mask!

Try and be brave today and show/share a side of you that is vulnerable.  Often when we do that, another person feels free enough to tells us that they have issues in a particular area as well and we are suddenly not so alone.

Masks start to fall off and we can pray for and with each other in a deeper more effective way. What a refreshing blessing that can be!

I praise You and love You Lord because You truly know my heart.  There are no masks or pretending with you and You love me anyway!  Please guard me from hurt with others when I share my heart and help me to be sensitive and understanding when someone needs to be vulnerable about their problems.  Help my sweet sisters in Christ be able to shed their masks and know that I will love them and pray for them.  In Your precious and sweet name, Amen!
