Failing is Part of the Process
By Stephanie Davis
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 ESV
“I can’t do it! I just can’t do it! No matter how hard I try, I fail every time!”
My heart broke as I watched my daughter in roller skates, sitting on her bottom, tucked tightly into a ball, sobbing at her many failed attempts to “shoot the duck”. Failure was not something she was used to. She, like her daddy, was proving to be the Jack of all trades.
However, this particular move she just couldn’t master, and despite the fact that she knew in her mind what needed to be done, her body failed to cooperate. Regardless of how hard she was trying or how bad she wanted to succeed, failure was the outcome.
My mama heart broke. I prayed as I walked over to her, and begged the Lord to give me the words to encourage her to get up and try again. His words stopped me dead in my tracks!
“Sweet girl, I’ve seen you in this same predicament. Trying your best and still failing. Giving it everything you’ve got and still falling flat on your bottom. I’ve looked into those same tear-filled eyes and wiped those same tear-stained cheeks. I knew you before I formed you. I held you before the world knew you existed. It was just Me and you. And that’s how you’ve made it through. And sweet heart, that’s how she is going to make it through. Just Me and her!
What I need from her is the same thing I need from you… trust the process. Let this be a reminder to you and to her to trust the process. All I need is for you ladies to show up, genuinely give it everything you’ve got and trust the process. Trust Me to step in and do the rest.”
Sweet friend, I see you there, on the ground, tucked tightly in a ball, crying out,
“I can’t do it! I just can’t do it! No matter how hard I try, I fail every time!”
And, here’s your reminder… He sees YOU! He has seen every attempt and every failure. He’s reaching out with open arms, to not only help you but to walk with you through the process. All you need to do is lift your hands, let go of the fear and TRUST HIM! Trust the process…
Please write the following verses down and place them where you can see them.
Read them over and over, as often as necessary for you to believe that He is indeed creating something new and He will complete it. There is no sin, no failure to great He cannot overcome.
Oh precious Heavenly Father… creator of our souls… the One who was there at the very beginning and The One who is graciously and mercifully walking us to the finish. We come to You today, asking You to forgive us for thinking more of ourselves than we ought. Forgive us for forgetting that when we operate in and of our own strengths we will fail every time! And sometimes even when we are smack dab in the middle of Your will we will still fail. Teach us to trust the process and as we do, may our faith and trust in You increase as well. Thank You for promising to work all things out to Your good! May we continue to wholeheartedly pursue You and Your purposes! For it is in Jesus' name we pray these things… Amen.
