Flying High
 By Noelle Dey

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1 NLT

Would you ever wear a Breathe Right® nasal strip in public?

I literally have to ask myself this question.  Why?  Because I’ve had one too many airplane flights where I’ve woken up with drool covering my chin and my shirt.

Embarrassing?  Of course.  Is there a silver lining in this cloud?  There are actually two.

I’ve found that every time I fly, God gives me two gifts: humility (in the form of overactive salivary glands) and faith.

Once ascended above the clouds, the chaos of my daily grind fades.  I can’t see the traffic.  I don’t feel the weight of raising a pre-teen.  There’s no checking account to reconcile.  I find myself on God’s “plane” of existence.  The world seems small and God feels so near.

When I’m flying, I think bigger.  I feel protected by God.  I know that I know that He has me covered.  I believe it with all my heart.  I have faith to move mountains.

That’s precisely where God wants me to be… even if I’m on the ground with an overloaded to-do list.  And it’s possible!  When I breathe deeply and allow God into my circumstances, He renews my mind (Romans 12:2).  I ask Him to give me eyes to see things from His perspective.

Do you yearn to feel loved and protected?  Does your soul cry out for rest?  One of God’s names is El Elyon, “The Most High God” (Daniel 4:34).

Psalm 91:1 whispers a secret to our hearts: “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”

I have never found rest or protection when I’m caught up in this hectic world.  But when I stretch my faith and believe that God is bigger than my trials, I find shelter in the shadow of our Most High God.  He doesn’t build us shelters in the dirt.  But He does protect us when we rise above the clouds of our lives and board His plane.

Read and memorize Hebrews 13:8.  “Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.”

Consider a time when you felt hopeless but God came through for you.  If He is no different today, how does that give you hope for your current trial?

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You are our God Most High.  Thank You that You are far above the chaos of our daily lives and our present trials.  We believe You are the same yesterday, today and forever.  Help us to recall Your faithfulness in our past so we can rest in Your shelter today.   We love You and we lift our prayers high in Jesus’ Name, Amen!
