God’s Economy
By Maria Drayton
I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. Psalm 37:25
The world’s economy is unstable and I hadn’t realized toilet paper had become a hot commodity until I went looking for it. As I strode down the paper aisle of Walmart, I realized that I missed the mad rush as all the shelves were empty. Now, we were in need. In need of toilet tissue. A thing that had once been taken for granted was now a major hot ticket item. “We only have three rolls left,” I thought. Deciding not to give up; I made trips to two more grocery stores, three drug stores and two convenience stores all ending in frustration and no toilet paper. I went home, we still had three rolls left.
Once I got home, the Holy Spirit began to speak to me. “You forgot to ask me before you went looking for toilet paper and you forgot one spot,” He said. I sat dumbfounded. He was right, the Bible clearly says,
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
So I left out heading straight to the store the Holy Spirit suggested and as soon as I began to park I noticed a lady pushing her shopping cart toting my most valuable need: Toilet Paper!!!!
I know it’s a simple thing and right now there are so many more important things to be concerned with in these changing times, other than toilet paper. But one thing that I’ve noticed is that God’s people are not in need. I’ve seen and noticed many Christians taking care of others and being a blessing. Not just Christians but people everywhere are blessing each other! God’s economy is taking over. The Bible is simple and plain:
Do to others as you would have them do to you. Luke 6:31 NIV
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Luke 6:38 NIV
A friend who had just stocked up on everything just before the pandemic hit, is now able to be a blessing. Another friend is preparing meals for those who are sick and shut in and never seeing the food run out. These are just a couple of examples that I know personally but the point remains, we are not in lack. Although the stock market plunges, God is not only taking care of us but blessing us.
Even during these days, I see God’s glory... and I stay grateful. He is still in control.
And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 NIV
Heavenly Father, thank You for who You are. You are the great I am! Thank You for reminding me that I operate in Your economy and not the world’s. Though things are ever-changing around me You continue to supply all my needs according to who You are and Your kingdom. Thank You for continuing to show me Your glory even during these times. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
