Today’s Special is: Letting God Pick Us Up When We Stumble

Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Jamy Whitaker

Main Ingredient:

Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand.

Psalm 37:24 NLT

Entrée:

I vividly recall each of my children learning how to walk. Their adorable faces, chubby legs and tentative little feet as they stepped out on their own for the first time. Each one was so determined to keep going. The independence was fine within the safe parameters of home, but walking outside or in public places was another story.

However, as a parent, I knew I couldn’t continue to carry them everywhere through adulthood, so I had to let them try. I was holding their hand and right beside them every step of the way. If they happened to stumble, I was there to lift them up, hold them close and wipe their tears. Then, they were ready to try again.

The very same thing is true of us with our Heavenly Father. God promises us in Psalm 37:24 that we will not fall because He holds us.

It is not any surprise that things will come into our lives at times and trip us up. I personally was thrown for a loop a little over a year ago when the doctor said, “It’s cancer!” I started to worry about the future, my family and what this would mean for my life. I stumbled – looking for answers and solutions on my own - instead of immediately turning to the arms of God. However, He did not let me fall. I reached out to Him and He lifted me up.

I know that just like a child learning to walk, I need to reach out for God’s hand and let Him lead me step-by-step.

Are you tottering on the edge ready to fall? Reach your hand out to your Heavenly Father He won’t let you fall.

Take Out:

Spend time with God in prayer today and ask forgiveness for the times you’ve stumbled. Then praise Him for reaching out and keeping you from falling.

Dessert:

Dear Father, I come to You as Your child seeking Your help through the circumstances that are coming my way this week. At times, I’m just like a toddler learning to walk and I stumble, but thank You for being beside me every step of the way to catch me before I fall. May I look to You for guidance as I learn and grow in You. May I also walk stronger and with confidence knowing You are holding my hand. In Your Precious Name, Amen.
