FROM A BORING LIFE TO AN ABUNDANT LIFE
"As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord,
so walk in Him." - >Colossians 2:6
Do you seem to be getting bored these days? Has life seemed to have lost its luster? Do you find yourself going through the motions, going to work or going to school, drawing your breath and drawing your salary, and living the “same ole, same ole” day in and day out?
Did you know that God wants you to live an exciting life? Jesus came that we might have an abundant life, not a boring one (see John 10:10). But how do you tap into the abundant life God has for you? That is a great question!
IT’S A WALK OF FAITH
The Bible teaches that we are saved by faith in the Lord Jesus, by trusting Him and what He did for us on the cross. But just as we are saved by faith, we are to live each day by faith in the Son of God, who loved you and me and delivered Himself up for us (see Galatians 2:20). When “we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7), life gets unpredictable and wondrously exciting.
1. Abram—He walked by faith and not sight. He left his home of more than seventy years in Ur of the Chaldeans and stepped out in faith to find a land that God would show him. “He went out, not knowing where He was going” (Hebrews 11:8). It was an exciting walk, and it paid off big time.
2. Peter—He walked by faith and not sight. He left the safety and security of the boat and walked on the water with Jesus. Wow! Now that is really exciting! And he would have walked and walked and walked on the water had he not taken his eyes off Jesus.
3. David—He walked by faith and not sight. He faced off with 9¢9² Goliath, armed with nothing more than a slingshot, five smooth stones and a stick. I promise you, he was not yawning in boredom on the battlefield. He was exhilarated, thrilled, and without a doubt, somewhat scared. But it was so worth it and produced amazing results as God responded to his step of faith with a great victory.
4. Paul —He walked by faith and not sight. He preached in city after city and led untold multitudes to faith in Christ. Life for him was anything but boring and predictable. Everywhere he went, he saw God do miracle after miracle.
Don’t you think it is time for you to walk by faith and not by sight? Don’t you think it is time for you to move from Ur … to get out of the boat … to face that giant … to speak a word for Christ to that friend; that neighbor; that loved one? Helen Keller once said, “Life is either a daring adventure, or it is nothing.” What is life for you right now?
No matter your age or situation, God is the God of the miraculous and the exciting. He wants you to start taking “hold of that which is life indeed” (1 Timothy 6:19). Will you take hold of it? Will you reach out your hand of faith and cling to the promises of God? Will you get out of the boat and start walking on the water? He is calling you. What is your answer to Him?
