Hands-on Faith for Families – Week of January 13, 2020
Theme: Let Jesus Work in You
Cleaning Up
Scripture: But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin… If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:7, 9)
Play: Ask your kids what each would do to see who could get his or her clothes the dirtiest. Rate the ideas as: most original, dirtiest, slimiest, most fun, hardest to clean, etc.
Talk: When we really know Jesus, we realize that He is perfect and we are a mess. It is like comparing a perfectly clean, white shirt with one smeared with pizza, chocolate and sticky mud. Our sin makes our hearts disgustingly dirty. The Bible promises that God will cleanse our hearts through the blood of Jesus if we admit our sin and ask His forgiveness (1 John 1:7, 9). Why is it so hard to admit that we aren’t perfect?
Pray: Ask God to help you recognize and admit your sin so that He can cleanse your heart.
