Hands-on Faith for Families – week of May 31, 2021
Theme: Look for Ways to Serve Others
A Servant’s Heart Is Joyful
Scripture: Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, Who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. (Philippians 2:4-7 ESV)
Play: Play the “ha” game. The first person starts out saying “ha.” The next person says “ha ha.” Play continues with each person adding one more “ha” than the last. (The game often ends with laughter.)
Talk: Saying ha isn’t laughter, but saying ha enough times often leads to the real thing. In the same way, serving others isn’t naturally fun, but when done with the right attitude, it is often rewarding and leads to real joy. Whether we are helping someone who needs help or doing chores at home, we can do these things with a servant’s heart, modeling how Jesus served us (Philippians 2:4-7). What is the difference between serving with a good attitude and a bad attitude?
Pray: Ask God to help you serve others with a glad heart.
