It’s Time to Suit Up

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (Ephesians 6:13 nkjv)

I have found that some of the greatest doors that God has opened for me to share the gospel have come when I’ve least expected them. Often these opportunities will come our way when we’re out doing whatever it is that we do. Maybe we’re pumping gas or we’re at the grocery store. Maybe we’re seated next to someone on an airplane. Suddenly a quick conversation becomes an open door to share the gospel.

When is the last time you went out of your way to share the gospel with someone? When is the last time you prayed for an unbeliever by name, that he or she would come to Christ? When is the last time you brought someone to church to hear the gospel?

It has been said that 95 percent of all Christians have never led another person to Christ. Which group are you in? Are you in the elite 5 percent who have actually done it, or are you in the 95 percent who never have done it—and maybe haven’t even tried?

I think the problem today is that many Christians don’t understand the basic message of the gospel. Obviously that is paramount. Unbelievers need to hear the gospel preached to them, but sometimes I think we Christians need to have the gospel taught to us.

Any examination of the basic message of the gospel will quickly reveal that Jesus Christ is the only way to a relationship with God. That is the gospel.

God wants to use you. It’s time to realize that you are a soldier under orders. It’s time to suit up. Every piece of armor is important, because the spiritual battle is raging. We need to ask the Lord where He wants us to go and what He wants us to do.
