“See, We Have Left All”
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33 NKJV).
When Jesus said, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you,” what “things” was He talking about?
Well, He was talking about what you’re going to eat, what you’re going to wear—all the things that you care about. And God will take care of all these things if you put Him first.
But what does it mean to “seek first the kingdom of God?” It means study the Bible, know what the Bible says about things, and do what the Bible tells you to do.
One day as Jesus was talking with the disciples, Peter said to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You” (Mark 10:28 NKJV).
Jesus then made a promise that also applies to us today: “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life” (verses 29-30 NKJV).
To loosely paraphrase, whatever you give up to follow Christ, God will replace it with something far better. It may be in this life—or it may not be.
There will be tragedies, setbacks, and inexplicable things that happen to us and make no sense. But God promises that He will compensate. He will repay. He will make it up to us. And when we get to the afterlife, we’ll see how true that really is.
One day it all will be sorted out. It all will make sense. But until that day, our focus should be to walk closely with the Lord and put Him first.
