Little Compromises
“Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us” (Matthew 6:11-12 NLT).
When we first come to Christ, God changes us. We change the way we live and become different people. But then a little time passes, and we might make little compromises. Some of the old vices come back, and the next thing we know, those vices have gained a foothold in our lives.
How did that happen?
It happened a little bit at a time.
Every now and then we need a little housecleaning. That’s why Jesus taught us to pray, “Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us” (Matthew 6:11-12 NLT).
Jesus taught us to ask the Father to forgive our sins on a regular basis. Why? It’s because we sin every day. So we need to constantly ask God to forgive us.
My wife, Cathe, is always tidying up. When she makes a meal, for instance, she cleans up before she will eat the meal. She’s regularly sweeping, putting things away, and organizing the drawers.
In contrast, I will allow messes to build up for long periods of time. I’ll open a drawer and throw everything into it with no rhyme or reason. When it comes to organizing, it’s never do today what I can put off until tomorrow. So I have big messes that build up here and there.
We can clean up the messes in our lives the Cathe way or the Greg way. I suggest you do it the Cathe way. Don’t put it off. Don’t wait until it’s a big mess.
That’s why we need to constantly pray, “Lord, cleanse me today. Forgive me of my sins, both known and unknown.” Even if your life has become a tangled mess, He still will cleanse you. However, it’s better to live our lives being constantly cleansed by God.
