Weapons that Blind
This devotional was written by Jim Liebelt
But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. —2 Corinthians 11:3
I came across an interesting story about weapons that are being developed for use on the battlefield, which use lasers designed to temporarily blind and disorient enemy combatants. These non-lethal weapons illustrate that a soldier doesn’t have to be wounded or killed, to be incapacitated.
The Scriptures are clear that Satan is our enemy and is in the business of trying to destroy believers. But, perhaps like the tactics of modern warfare, today Satan doesn’t have to get rid of us to take us out of the battle. It may only take a strategy that utilizes temporary blinding. Anything that keeps us from pursuing our relationship with Christ and from serving Him can be used by Satan to blind us and keep us from being effective Christ-followers. When we become spiritually disoriented, even good things like career, school, friends, hobbies and ministry can turn into weapons to be used against us and blind us from sincere and pure devotion to Jesus.
Today, spend some time reflecting on the schemes Satan might use in your life to blind you in order to take you out of the battle. Protect yourself from Satan’s weapons. Put on the armor of God and stand firm.
GOING DEEPER:
1. What strategy or strategies do you think Satan uses in order to blind you and prevent you from following Christ?
2. Pray and ask God to give you wisdom and His protection to stand firm against Satan’s schemes.
