Discover God's Greatness Every Day - iBelieve Truth: A Devotional for Women - January 10, 2025
“Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23 (NIV)
The start of a new year represents a blank slate – a chance to start fresh and leave the struggles of the past behind. But what if this year, you embrace more than just a surface sense of renewal because a new year has begun? What if you intentionally use this time to seek God in deeper ways?
As you step into the new year, consider the powerful promise in the Book of Lamentations: every single morning, God pours new love into your life. There is no limit to God’s compassionate love, and God is always faithfully sending you love. Both God’s love and God’s faithfulness are great. God’s love never runs out, and God’s faithfulness is not contingent on your performance or circumstances. Every day, you can count on experiencing God’s great love and faithfulness in your life.
Think about the wonder of a sunrise. Each morning, the sky lights up with fresh colors in an awe-inspiring display. It’s as if creation itself reveals the truth of Lamentations 3:22-23 – that God’s compassionate and merciful love is new every morning, just like the dawn.
In this new year, resolve to see each day as a gift. Look for the wonder of God’s work in your life every day – such as through answered prayers and inspiring experiences. Some days will be challenging in this fallen world. But even then, the truth of God’s faithfulness remains, since God is constantly present with you and working for the best for you. You can count on God’s compassionate love to be there for you every single day, no matter what.
You may set New Year’s resolutions, such as eating healthier, exercising more, and spending less money. While these goals are valuable, why not also commit to experiencing the wonder of God’s love daily? This isn’t about adding another item to your to-do list. It’s about opening your heart to God’s presence and allowing God’s love to change your perspective. Here are a few ways to do so:
-Start your day with gratitude. Before reaching for your phone or tackling your to-do list, take a few moments to thank God for the gift of a new day. Then reflect on God’s faithfulness in your life and thank God for that.
-Look for God when you experience compassion. When you experience something compassionate – such as encouragement from a friend or a peaceful moment in nature, recognize these as signs of God’s compassion at work in your life.
-Immerse yourself in God’s Word. Make time to read and reflect on the Bible, even if it’s just a few verses each day. Let God’s promises refresh your soul and remind you of God’s faithfulness.
-Reflect on God’s faithful love at night. Before you go to sleep, review your day and notice where you experienced God’s compassion through grace and mercy. Thank God for that.
As you go through this year, remember that God’s faithfulness is not limited by your circumstances. You can rest in the assurance that God’s love will sustain you through whatever situations you face day by day. Every morning is a fresh opportunity to embrace God’s compassion, no matter what happened in your life yesterday.
When you recognize the wonder of God’s daily work in your life, you can experience God’s love in deeper ways. You can begin to see that God isn’t distant; he’s a personal, loving Heavenly Father who enjoys walking through each day with you. Let this truth shape your year: God’s love and faithfulness are great!
Let’s pray:
Dear God, thank you for your unfailing love and boundless compassion. As I step into this new year, I’m overwhelmed by the truth that your compassionate love is new every morning. Help me see each day as a fresh start that gives me a new opportunity to experience your merciful love and faithfulness. Teach me to look for the wonder of your work in my life, even in the most ordinary moments of my days. Open my heart to the wonder of your presence, and let me rest in the assurance that your love will never fail me. When challenges come, remind me that I am not consumed because of your great love. God, please let this year be a journey for me toward a closer relationship with you. I praise you for who you are and all you will do this year. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
