Today's Scripture
"Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?" Amos 3:3 NLT
Thoughts for Today
We all face challenges in life. Sometimes we may fall into sinful behavior that takes over our life. Overcoming that behavior is a process. If we try to overcome the hold it has on us by ourselves, we will surely fail. We must admit that we need help. We must recognize our sinful behavior, ask for God's forgiveness through Christ, and openly acknowledge we are forgiven according to Scripture.
Then . . . we must continue to walk with God.
Consider this …
The only way we can walk with God is to agree with him. Agreeing with God and walking with God go hand in hand. Walking with God means being in harmony with him and his Word, the Bible.
Two people cannot walk together unless they agree. If they are not walking in harmony, they are not going in the same direction . . . their goals are different . . .
friction grows . . . and communication deteriorates.
This is true not only of a relationship between two people--it's also true of our relationship with God. If we don't agree with his promises and commands in the Bible, we won't be moving in his direction. We will want our way, not his. And we will neglect prayer . . . our communication with him.
The only way to live an overcoming life is to walk in harmony with our Lord, knowing that we cannot change ourselves. As we obey and trust him, he changes us.
Prayer
Father, I know I cannot do this alone. Help me to walk in harmony with you and your Word. Help me to obey and trust you. In Jesus' name . . .
These thoughts were drawn from …Stepping into Freedom: A Christ-Centered Twelve-Step Program by Jimmy Ray Lee, D.Min. This twelve-step program is suggested for use in support groups, recovery groups and home groups. It offers help for anyone struggling with a life-controlling problem like drug addiction, alcoholism, sexual addiction, gambling or workaholism. Note: This curriculum was written especially for small groups and we encourage people to use it that way. However, it can also be used effectively as a personal study for individuals or couples.
