Today's Scripture

"I'm not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don't get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I've got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward-to Jesus. I'm off and running, and I'm not turning back." - Philippians 3:12-14 MSG

Thoughts for Today

As we walk with Jesus, we need to guard against becoming overconfident and proud. We must remain diligent and not take our relationship with God for granted. We must continually build a more intimate relationship with Him through reading the Bible, praying, and seeking to do His will.

Today's scripture brings some valuable guidance from the apostle Paul. Even though he was serving God with all his might, he showed no sign of pride. He knew he had more to learn and was dependent on Jesus. But He also had His eye on the goal: serving God here on the earth and spending eternity with Jesus. He was off and running--and never turned back!

Consider this …

We can help one another keep our eyes on the goal and not turn back:

Encourage one another constantly by confronting ourselves with God's truth. After examining our own lives, help a brother who has slipped. Pray for one another. Be merciful and kind and forgiving. Love one another.

And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6-7 NLT

Prayer

Father, I thank you for Jesus. I thank you that my sins are forgiven. Help me put the past behind and move toward Jesus. Help me to never turn back. In Jesus' name …

These thoughts were drawn from …Completely Free! A Group Study of Romans 1-8 by Dan Strickland. Everyone struggles from time-to-time, but we can have confidence that in Christ we are completely free from sin's slavery, from condemnation, and from fear of failure. This group study of Romans 1-8 and 12 helps Christians break out of the dull routine of a stagnant spiritual life. Applying the truths found in Romans can transform any believer into a person eager to follow God's will. This study can also serve as a powerful evangelistic tool by explaining the message of salvation as presented in Romans. Suggested uses include home Bible studies, cell groups, Sunday school classes, support groups and personal enrichment.
