The Hidden Hand of God - Love Worth Finding - April 7
April 7, 2025 – The Hidden Hand of God
Ruth 2:3-6
Sermon: 2087 God’s Amazing Grace, Part 1
Pray Over This
“Then she left, and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers. And she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech. Now behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said to the reapers, ‘The Lord be with you!’ And they answered him, ‘The Lord bless you!’ Then Boaz said to his servant who was in charge of the reapers, ‘Whose young woman is this?’ So the servant who was in charge of the reapers answered and said, ‘It is the young Moabite woman who came back with Naomi from the country of Moab.’”
Ruth 2:3-6
Ponder This
God was with Ruth and Naomi in their journey. I want you to see the hand of God in all of this. When did they get back to the land? Just in time for the barley harvest. This is not by accident. The harvest is going on there. And then she goes into the fields to glean, and whose field does she get into? She simply goes to a field, and it’s the field of Boaz, her near kinsman. You can see the hidden hand of God.
And then when she’s there in the field of Boaz, who happens to visit his fields at just that moment? Boaz himself. Ruth had gone through so much. She was broken and bankrupt. She was bruised and beaten. She was cursed and crushed. Did God do all of that out of cruelty? No, as you learn the bigger picture, you see God had a sovereign plan in it all.
When a craftsman works, he sees the big picture from the start. Has it seemed like you’re a nail and a hammer is coming out of somewhere, beating on you? Does it seem like you are a piece of metal, and a file is gnawing and scraping and reducing you? Remember that God holds the nail and the hammer. God holds the metal and the file. It is God who is crafting this story, and He knows what He is doing.
- What are some things that have felt like mistakes in your life? How can you see God’s sovereignty when you reflect on those things?
- What are the things in your story that are hard to trust God with right now?
Practice This
Pray and be honest with God about how you are struggling to trust His sovereignty.
