Proverbs 1:1-4
Sermon: 1499 Your Child: Wise or Otherwise, Part 2
Pray Over This
“The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel: to know wisdom and instruction, to perceive the words of understanding, to receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, judgment, and equity; to give prudence to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.”
Proverbs 1:1-4
Ponder This
A wise man can look down the pike: he can prepare for the future; he can see danger; and he can get out of the way. But this is not true for the simple-minded. I don’t mean that he is stupid, he just cannot think about danger. That’s the reason a teenager is so likely to hurt himself after drinking beer and driving 60, 70, or 80 miles per hour. He just can’t see the danger; he can’t think ahead.
But how can this tragedy be avoided? What should we do with the simple-minded? You, parent, need to read the Word daily. It needs to be real in your life. You need to be changed by the Word and then read it with your children and explain it to them. You start with the simple when he is young. God has given the Bible for your change and growth and God has given you to teach your child. One of the chief ways the simple learn is by example. Your child is open, and whatever example is set before him or her makes a great impression.
- What are some examples your parents left for you? How did you learn from them?
- What is your rhythm of reading the Word and spending time with God? Is it something you would consider a good example for someone else? Why or why not?
Practice This
Talk to someone you know who looks up to you and ask what that person has learned from you.
