How Are We Saved? - Love Worth Finding - February 15

February 15, 2024 – How Are We Saved?
Hebrews 11:7
Sermon: 1504 The Captain and His Kids, Part 1

Pray Over This

“By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.”
Hebrews 11:7

Ponder This

If you remember enough of your high school English studies, you know what a preposition is. There are three key prepositions in Ephesians 2:8-10: by, through, and for. It is “by grace,” “through faith,” and “for good works.”

Genesis 6:8 says, “Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” Did you know this is the first mention of grace in the Bible? How did Noah and his kids get saved? By grace! And what is grace? Grace is God’s incredible, indescribable love that leads God to love us when we don’t deserve it: “while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). We have a covenant of grace. We’re not saved by good works. We’re not saved by joining a church, giving our money, getting baptized, obeying the Ten Commandments, or living right. Salvation is not a reward for the righteous; it is a gift for the guilty. Noah was not saved because he was such a good guy; he was saved by the grace of God.

If you are in Christ, God has worked through these same powerful prepositions in your life.

  • How has God worked through powerful prepositions in your life?
  • Why are grace and faith so important in your walk with Christ?

Practice This

Praise God that salvation comes by faith and not through good works.
