2 Timothy 3:16-17
Sermon: 1725 How You Can Be Certain the Bible Is the Word of God, Part 2
Pray Over This
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17
Ponder This
The Bible is like a garment: You can pull a thread here, and it wrinkles way down at the bottom. The Bible is one book, but it is composed of sixty-six books. There are thirty-nine books in the Old Testament and twenty-seven books in the New Testament. At least forty different authors wrote these books over about sixteen hundred years. They were written in about thirteen different countries and on three different continents. People from all kinds of backgrounds wrote them: some were shepherds; some were kings; some were soldiers; some were princes; some were priests; some were fishermen; some were scholars; some were historians; some were business and professional men; and others were common laborers. They wrote on many different subjects, and they wrote from different backgrounds, in at least three different languages. Yet when these books come together, they don’t make sixty-six separate books. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible reads as one book. There is an incredible unity in the Bible.
All the Bible is kind of summed up in this, “Jesus loves me, this I know. For the Bible tells me so!” God loves you. This Book tells us that Jesus left Heaven, came, suffered, bled, and died for your sin. God raised Him from the dead. He ascended to Heaven, and if you will trust Him and surrender your life to Him, He will save you and keep you according to the Word of God.
- When have you been convinced of the truth in God’s Word? When have you struggled to trust it?
- Why is it important to recognize the unity in God’s Word?
