A Few Warm Coals - One Year Devotions for Women

“Your leader will break out and lead you out of exile. He will bring you through the gates of your cities of captivity, back to your own land. Your king will lead you; the LORD himself will guide you.” - Micah 2:13

God loves to do significant things through the insignificant. The remnant, the few Israelites who were left, was a small group. But God called this group of people to make a significant difference in their world.

Some of the Lord’s people are willing to make a difference. Micah prophesied: “Your leader will break out and lead you out of exile. He will bring you through the gates of your cities of captivity, back to your own land. Your king will lead you; the Lord himself will guide you” (Micah 2:13). As the sheep will follow the ram who can break through the enclosure with his horns, so God’s people will follow their leader, who will bring the remnant of faithful people out of captivity. Through that small but faithful remnant, God would do great things.

Vance Havner once said, “The way to start a fire isn’t to first try and light a log, but rather to blow on a few warm coals.” The small, insignificant remnant can start the fire! In every church there are a few “warm coals.” They may not be the wisest, richest, or most gifted people in the congregation, but they are warm toward God and open to his word. They want to follow God and make a difference. The seemingly insignificant can became great and do great things for God. Even a few warm coals can start a fire. How warm are you?
