Feet Like Bronze - One Year Devotions for Women

His feet were as bright as bronze refined in a furnace. - Revelation 1:15

When John saw the glorified Christ, he saw that his feet looked like bright bronze. Bronze, an alloy of copper and tin, was used extensively in Old Testament times. This ordinary material was used for the sanctuary (Exodus 25:3), fashioned into clasps to hold the tent of the tabernacle together (Exodus 26:11), and to make pillars and carts and a bronze sea for the house of the Lord. After Shishak, king of Egypt, came up against Jerusalem and took away the gold shields that Solomon had made, King Rehoboam made bronze shields to replace them (2 Chronicles 12:9-10).

Refined, or “white,” bronze was not used for these things because it was extremely costly and heavy. It was too heavy to use for sanctuary vessels that would be moved around or for soldiers’ shields that had to be lifted up. John saw that the glorified Christ had feet like refined bronze.

Those feet are capable of trampling the serpent’s head (Genesis 3:15); those feet are capable of trampling down the forces of evil. The risen Lord reminded the church at Thyatira about his feet like polished bronze (Revelation 2:18). There were Christians there who were flaunting sexual sin that needed stamping out. There is no place for such things in Christ’s church. His feet are a salutary reminder of that fact! What needs stamping out of your life?
