By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of he king’s command.--Hebrews 11:23
Moses’ mother took her blessed baby boy (after she was no longer able to hide him), and with prayer and faith in God, she put her baby in a basket and laid it in the reeds by the NileRiver’s bank. His parents had a strategy. They stationed Miriam nearby where the daughter of Pharaoh often bathed. In the sovereignty of God, Pharaoh’s daughter saw Moses and had compassion on him.
The children of Israel were living in darkness and despondency in those days. But God knew their needs and in His grace, He provided a deliverer. Moses’ parents believed and trusted God. In their obedience, we can see the significance and value of life.
Just as the parents of Moses were living in terrible times, America is also in spiritual bondage. We are controlled by unseen forces that appear. And we know that this bondage is powerful and tyrannical. I received a letter from Dr. Billy Graham several years ago that said:
“As we approach the year 1999, I cannot help but feel the world is facing one of the most dangerous situations in recent years. The problems are so numerous that I can’t even speak of them in this letter because they’re changing week to week. Financial disasters, small wars and threats of terrorism in so many places through the world are millions in spiritual darkness and despair. They live without hope and without God in the world.”
The world and even America is becoming more and more like Egypt. The lifestyles of many people in America are becoming like those Israelites who were assimilated into the pagan culture of their time. Joshua would later remind them of their need to repent of their idol worship in Egypt. In our dark days, we must remain true to our God and do everything that we can to preserve and protect the sanctity of life.
