Being comfortable with knowing in part

March 15, 2011

For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

1 Corinthians 13:12

As a pastor, one question I constantly hear is, “Will we know one another in heaven?” The answer is absolutely yes! I certainly don’t think we’ll be dumber in heaven than we are on earth! We know each other here and we’re going to know then. In fact, we’re going to know each other even better because we’ll see each other as God sees us!

But when it comes to heaven and the afterlife, there are so many questions we have that just aren’t answered in the Bible. All of those questions—those uncertainties in life—we just don’t understand now. But we will understand them better when we see Jesus face to face.

Now, one problem that our culture faces today is that everyone has the expectation of immediate gratification when it comes to a lack of information. Do you want to know what the square root of 10 billion is? Go punch in into a calculator. Do you want to see how many different breeds of Chihuahuas there are? Get online and Google it.

But when it comes to the deep things about heaven, be content with waiting to know them fully. Trust me; they’ll be worth the wait!

BE PATIENT WHEN IT COMES TO NOT KNOWING EVERYTHING ABOUT HEAVEN BECAUSE WHAT YOU KNOW IN PART NOW, YOU WILL KNOW FULLY ONE DAY.
