What it Means for You to Live Ready
Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. - 1 Corinthians 16:13
You’ve very likely heard about the Pony Express, the historically famous mail service between St. Joseph, Missouri, and the West Coast. This service depended on constant movement and readiness between a series of relay stations spaced 10 to 15 miles apart. And over the course of 10 days, a parcel could travel thousands of miles because of the riders’ coordination.
Here’s how it worked: When a rider was approaching the next station, he would shout as loud as he could, giving the station master very short notice that he would be needed outside waiting with a fresh horse. This ensured the fastest possible delivery over a very long distance.
For the riders of the Pony Express, readiness made all the difference. And in much the same way, we as believers are to live life with a sense of readiness. We’re to be ready to share Jesus on a moment’s notice. We’re to be ready to defend our faith when it’s challenged. And ultimately, we’re to be ready for Jesus to return any day.
It can be easy to get lost in the monotony of our day-to-day lives. But we can’t let the tasks of the day distract us from what’s really important. Be ready to give reason for the hope that’s in you. Be ready for Jesus to return any day now. Live ready!
Prayer Challenge
