Time with God - Aug. 23, 2010
Monday 23rd August
Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord—for we walk by faith, not by sight—we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.
Even if my obedience appears to do nothing for me, it gives me the opportunity to please God, whom I love the most!
If I do things for my wife just so that she will do things for me, our relationship is not healthy. In the same way, your relationship with God needs to become so much more than simply your attempts to stay in His "good books" so that He will bless you.
You know that you have truly come to love God when you continue to obey Him even when He chooses not to make life easy or pleasant for you. Do you love God for what He does for you, or have you learned to love Him for Himself? Have you learned the wonderful joy of simply pleasing God with no strings attached?
Why don't you have a prayer time today in which you ask for nothing except that God would show you how to please Him today?
