Psalm 119:169-176

“Let my couil live and praise you, and let your rules help me.”(v. 175)

Why do you want to live? If you were about to die and you cried out to God to give you more time on earth, what would be the reason you would give? Why do you need to live?

My wife and I lived for a few months with some good friends. Every evening around the dinner table we would pray together. When we finished the prayer time and the final “Amen” was said, the kids would all say in unison and with great enthusiasm, “The reason I’m alive is to please and praise the Lord!”

They had it right. The reason God made mankind to begin with was to express and declare His own nature. He made us “in his own image” (Genesis 1:27). It is God’s plan and desire for your life that your whole life is an expression of praise to him, showing people what he is like.

When you speak with people, when you react to life’s circumstances, when you are with a group of people who are cutting someone else down, when you have an opportunity to share Christ with someone, in every circumstance of life, God is saying to you, “I want you to honour me.”

As you pursue that way of life, remember this verse: God’s ordinances (his word) will help you!
