Isaiah 57:15

For thus says the high and exalted One who lives forever, whose name is Holy, “I dwell on a high and holy place, and also with the contrite and lowly of spirit, in order to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.”

Prayer that God pays attention to begins with an attitude of dependence and humility!

The foundation of effective prayer is not your words or requests or expressions of praise. Rather, the foundation of prayer is a right heart-attitude toward God.

Yes, we should be confident when we pray; but that confidence is based on the character and promises of God, not on our own person.

It is humility and brokenness that God is looking for in those who pray to Him. He is “high and holy” but also so deeply compassionate that He pays attention to “the contrite and lowly of spirit”.

Several times the Bible warns us that “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6). God is saying to you today that if you want to grow strong in your prayer life, put your self-confidence away; throw your pride aside and come to Him with a sense of desperation and dependence.

Then watch as God responds to you, reveals Himself to you, and acts on your behalf.
