Time with God - January 8, 2014
I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. (v. 11-12)
Focusing on God helps you to look up!
Paul had learned the secret of contentment in every circumstance. When he honored and pursued God in his life, and God blessed him with financial prosperity; and when he honored and pursued God, and God put him through times of hunger and suffering—in “whatever circumstances” he encountered, he was content. His spiritual life continued to thrive.
How? The next verse (v.13) tells us:
“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
The psalmist says, “From whence shall my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth”
Does your life work well when you try to live it in your own strength? No. Does your life work well when you invite God to live His life in you by His strength? Yes! Yet we continue to try to live life on our own. How foolish we are.
God wants you to begin each day with an attitude that says, “I don’t know all that this day holds, but I know God has designed my life so that I need Him today. I know that I need to be walking close to Him, depending on Him in every circumstance”.
