Psalm 139:17-18

“How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.”

The God we serve has a perfect knowledge of us, and all the motions and actions both of our inward and of our outward life are seen by his loving heart!

David acknowledges, with wonder and gratitude, that God cared for him all of his days. He was fully aware of the fact that God knew him and thought of him, and that God’s thoughts towards him were thoughts of love.

David goes on to share that when he is awake he is still with God. God is constant at all times, ready every day to take care of us, to protect us, to speak to us, to counsel us and to surround us with his love.

The same verse that reflects God’s commitment towards David, also reflects a continual response from David to God. Through this verse, David is basically saying, “I know that you are with me God, in the night, in the day, and I am going to make sure that from the moment I wake up, I am with you too—that I don’t leave you hanging, that I focus my thoughts on you, that I lift my praise to you, that I come to you with my worries and with my hopes from the break of dawn.

There are a lot of people in your world who don’t know that God is with them, that God watches over them, that he cares and loves them. Take some time today to pray for those people. Think about how you can communicate the loving heart of God to someone today.

What do you do when you wake up? Do you take some time to connect with God and ask him to guide you and help you through the day? If not, make a decision today to start your mornings like David did: with God.
