Time with God - October 9

Wednesday 9th October

Acts 9:36

“Now there was in Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas. She was full of good works and acts of charity.”

Love the people in your life with acts of kindness!

I love it that Luke pauses here in the book of Acts to give us these details about Tabitha. “She was full of good works and acts of charity.” It seems as though Tabitha’s mission was to show kindness wherever she went.

Do you know who else was busy with acts of kindness? Jesus! Wherever he went, whatever he did, he showed kindness. The little children, the blind man, the prostitute, the tax collector, his disciples, they all felt Jesus’ kindness and their lives were transformed as a result of it.

Mark Twain once said, “Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”

Kindness makes people feel loved, cherished, and cared for. If you want to let another person know that you are on their side, show them kindness. It’s a language everyone understands.

What does kindness look like? Acts of kindness can range from giving money to the poor to giving your sick friend a lift to the doctor. It could be taking some unexpected yummy treats to your workmates, or helping your neighbor move something heavy. It could be texting your boss telling her you hope that her meeting goes well. And it doesn’t stop there. The great thing about kindness is that it comes in all shapes and forms.

Just like Tabitha, choose today to be full of good works and acts of charity. Let your kindness be the thing that makes a way for you to share the good news of the gospel with the people in your world.

Reflect on how you felt on a day when someone you didn’t know showed kindness to you. Choose two people (one who doesn’t know you and one who does) and show them kindness today.
