Time with God - September 18

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.”
It’s said, “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments!”
God’s clear message to us today is that we must learn to discipline ourselves if we want to accomplish spiritual goals that make a difference for eternity.
There are many ways that we should discipline ourselves, but notice that Paul says that he disciplines his body to benefit his preaching ministry. You too must discipline your body for the sake of your spiritual goals. Discipline yourself in terms of what you eat. Fast for a day, if your health allows it, to show your body that it’s your slave, not your master.
Discipline yourself by not allowing yourself to look at sensual images that your mind might latch onto and replay later. And remember, self-control is a fruit of the Spirit, so ask him for help.
