Our Tendency to Imitate - Warrior Mom Wisdom - March 22

Warrior Mom Wisdom Devotional

Our tendency to imitate

I want to continue on regarding a tendency to imitate that was mentioned in a previous devotional. Young children mirror (imitate) their caregivers. This is how they learn. They learn how to speak by copying what others say. They learn to behave the way they see others behave. Young birds do the same in regard to their mothers. All animals copy their caregivers. We have a tendency to imitate that with which we are surrounded: the things we hear said to us, and the things we see.

I bring this up because I started to imitate what others were saying to me in regard to the blessing of the home for us. I started copying the details of what was said. I started speaking in half/truths, ambiguous sentences, basing what I was saying on what I was hearing and seeing. I was waiting for it all to work out before I fully claimed that it would work out – even after God had already confirmed that it would all work out (before it all began!). This is a dangerous place that creeps up upon us before we know it has imprisoned us within walls of ambiguous doubt and fear. We must be vigilant to imitate our Father more than we imitate those around us because people can be misled by their physical eyes and emotions.

This is why it’s so crucial to be in the Word and in constant communication with God, pressing into His Will, His Ways, and His phrases of Truth in your every day! We will be outnumbered by those who doubt and fear, by those who report facts of the physical. We have been called to be different than the world. It takes a fortified faith, put through the fire, refined many times within His Word, to be able to distinguish what the world says and does between Who God is and what He says He will do in our lives. Since we have a tendency to imitate what we see and hear, may we persevere to hear and see God! May we be imitators of Christ.

We want all of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.
