A Morning Prayer to Welcome Spring
By: Lynette Kittle

Bible Reading:
“In the morning, Lord, You hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before You and wait expectantly.” - Psalm 5:3

Listen or Read Below:

I’ve grown to love the early morning hours; their quietness and stillness, the sense of being alone with God, just He and I, together.

It may seem silly to feel or believe that we’re ever truly alone with the God of the Universe, but early morning gives us the sense that it’s just the two of us, spending time together.

Being a daddy’s girl growing up, my dad was there for me every morning—making coffee, bringing home our favorite donuts, speaking loving words with a good-morning hug and kiss.

Just as my father’s earthly presence provided comfort and support at the start of each new day, there is so much comfort and strength that comes from being with my heavenly Father every morning.

Lamentations 3:22-23 reveals, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Is God a Morning Person?

God seems to mention mornings often in Scripture, calling us to greet Him, talk with Him, and ask Him for direction for our day.

Mark 1:35 describes how Jesus spent His morning in prayer: “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed.”

As well, how many of us have experienced being awakened early in the morning to pray and talk with God?

It seems fitting, then, to welcome spring with a morning prayer, especially after the cold, dark, and dreary winter months. Spring feels as though it has been quietly waiting in the wings to appear, just as the morning quietly arrives each day.

Like morning’s first light, spring is a fresh reminder that the barren seasons in our lives don’t last forever. It renews, reminds, and refreshes our hearts. Though it may seem like winter’s chill and darkness will never end, new life is ready and waiting to break forth, first in subtle ways, then in glorious bursts of color and beauty.

It’s no wonder the death and resurrection of Christ is celebrated in the spring, as Jesus is the ultimate example of new life springing forth on the earth. Buried to rise again, evidence of life triumphing over death and life eternally everlasting.

As written in John 11:25, “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me will live, even though they die.’”

Spring Reminds Us of God’s Faithfulness and New Life to Come

Spring reminds us that there is more to come; new life waiting to emerge in this world and new life awaiting us in eternity.

Like the morning, spring welcomes us each year with a gentle assurance that God has not forgotten us. It reminds us of the life He continually gives and renews within us.

As Job 38:12-13 questions, “Have you ever given orders to the morning, or shown the dawn its place, that it might take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it?

Mornings and springtime seem to belong together—a season to look to God, recognize His faithfulness, and receive the new life He offers each of us if we simply open our hearts to Him.

Psalm 90:14 encourages us to begin our mornings by asking God to, “Satisfy us in the morning with Your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.”

As well, Psalm 143:8 says, “Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I entrust my life.”

Let’s Pray:

Dear Father,

As Psalm 66:19 assures us, “But God has surely listened and has heard my prayer,” we thank You for hearing, listening, and answering our morning prayer to welcome Spring.

With each new bud and evidence of new life we see bursting through, let us be reminded of Your faithfulness and the new life You offer each one of us through Your Son, Jesus.

Let us savor and take in all the newness of life You give us, O Lord, every day of the spring season. Fill and overflow our hearts with gratitude so that we may sing for joy and be glad for all our days.

This morning and every morning of Spring, show us the way we should go, as we entrust our lives to Your loving care.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

When war dominates the headlines, parents are left asking an important question: How do we talk to our kids about it? In this episode of March or Die, Jeremy Stalnecker shares practical and biblical principles for guiding young people through confusing and frightening global events.

Drawing from his experience as a Marine who lived through the wars following 9/11, Jeremy explains why moments of global conflict can become powerful opportunities for parents to teach their children about courage, faith, and moral clarity. Rather than avoiding difficult conversations, parents can use them to help their kids understand fear, the reality of evil in the world, and the responsibility we have to stand for what is right.

This conversation explores how parents can alleviate fear, explain why conflict exists, and demonstrate a faith-filled response when the world seems chaotic. Jeremy also discusses the importance of teaching children the difference between necessary and unnecessary violence, why standing against evil matters, and how faith in God provides stability even in uncertain times.
