Think on These Things Tonight
Your Nightly Prayer for Feb. 26, 2025

TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” - Phillipians 4:8
SOMETHING TO PONDER
As we go about our day, our minds tend to run from one worry to another. If we aren’t careful we can become mentally bogged down with what needs to be done, the things we are worried about, and concerns about all that is wrong with our world pretty easily. At the end of the day, as we slow down and work on finding rest, all of those thoughts can get even louder, making it hard to find sleep.
For the years that I battled an anxiety disorder, when I laid down for bed was the worst time of day. There were periods of time when I truly dreaded the end of the day because it was in the stillness that my anxiety soared. It has taken so much effort to turn this struggle around but God has graciously led me through my battle towards his peace.
A part of calming the beast of anxiety is controlling your mind. We have to fight to consider the things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, praiseworthy, and good! Some ways to do this include starting a prayer and gratitude journal. The act of writing down what you know is good in your life helps focus your brain where you want it to go. Worship music is also a great way to sing yourself towards God’s goodness. As we sing out, our whole body changes, and soon, we find our worries being drowned out by our voices of praise. At the end of the day, take time to consider God’s goodness instead of mulling on all the troubles that you have seen.
YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER
Father, give me the strength I need to think about the things that are good. Help me to lay down my worries and fears. Protect my mind from the powers of anxiety, depression, hopelessness, stress, worry, shame, and fear. Instead, let me walk in your peace. When I am prone to worry let me choose to praise you! I thank you that you are good and you give us many good gifts. Amen.
THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON
1. Make a list of things you are thankful for from today.
2. Consider who God is. Give him thanks for the ways you can trust him as your good Father.
3. Take time to practice some deep breathing as you clear your mind before bed. This is a great way to let go of the stress of the day in favor of a relaxed mind and body.
