TONIGHT'S SCRIPTURE

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." - Matthew 6:34

SOMETHING TO PONDER

Does the nighttime finality of flipping the light switch off tempt you to race ahead to the next day? Life is full of unknowns, and it's easy to fall into the trap of worrying about what the morning will hold. Being anxious over the challenges ahead doesn't solve them. We know this, but choosing thoughts contrary to worry and anxiety can be tricky for us humans.

Matthew 6:34 contains Jesus' words for our hearts when the lights go out, "Therefore don't worry about tomorrow." My mama used to say whenever we see a verse with the word "therefore," we should look to see what it's there for. If we back up one verse to Matthew 6:33, Jesus said to seek God's kingdom and righteousness first, and then everything else would be cared for. What does this look like when it's time for our head to hit the pillow?

The New Living Translation of I Peter 5:7 says, "Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you." When my daughter, Taylor's disease, had reached the point of not knowing what the next day would hold, I would pray each night, "Lord, I know you care about her and our entire family. I'm too weary to carry this burden and give it to you once again." This act of faith in surrendering our worries can bring an enormous sense of relief.

So, I encourage you tonight to do the same. God has a plan for tomorrow, and you can trust that He is still in control. Trusting God's plan can bring hope even in the face of uncertainty.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Heavenly Father,
Though I am tempted to worry about tomorrow, I long to trust in Your plan. You are my Provider and Sustainer. Help me rest in your care and give my worry to you, Jesus. May tonight be filled with pleasant dreams of your grace and mercy because I know tomorrow is Yours.
Amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

1. Someone kind. Who shared a kind word with you recently?

2. Something sweet. Did you read a verse that spoke to your heart? Did you eat something yummy?

3. Somewhere beautiful. Where have you seen God's handiwork on display? Maybe from a vacation or trip or perhaps in your own backyard.
