When You're Lost and Lacking Direction - Your Nightly Prayer
When You’re Lost and Lacking Direction
Your Nightly Prayer for Dec. 17, 2024

TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE
"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." - James 1:5
SOMETHING TO PONDER
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve anxiously paused my plans, unsure if what I was about to do was the right next step. Or how often I’ve sat and stared at several next-step options, stewing with confusion over how to proceed. Deep down, I truly want to make the choices God wants me to make that will lead to his best for me. But many times, I forget to make him my go-to at the crossroads of choices. My past history says my husband and Mom would be the more likely natural candidates for my initial counsel. And then there are the times I do quickly consult the Lord, only to allow my personal preferences and fleshy pull to worldly comforts to take over and dictate which way to go. Leaving me at the end of the day feeling lost in inner clutter, stuck and swimming in a mess of confusion and frustration, and filled with brain fog and a discouraged heart.
Have you felt a little lost lately? Or are you lacking some direction with something that’s been swirling around you? Maybe you’re considering a new project or undertaking? Or you have a big decision to make that concerns your family, friendships, or your future. Or possibly you feel like most days lately are bombarded with more choices than you can sort through, leaving you constantly feeling unsettled and unsure in the face of the thousands of tiny decisions that hold you up and delay your confident progress.
I feel this all the time. It’s like the busier life gets, the more I come to lack clarity, and the more I need divine assurance and quick answers. I bet you sense that, too. But the good news is, there is a readily available resolution for our confusion. As Christians, we have the best ever-present wise counselor of clarity. The problem is we forget this. And definitely don’t tap into his direction as much as is offered. It’s God. Our good, Almighty Father. Our Wonderful Counselor. Who is waiting for us to ask for help? Waiting for us to ask for wisdom. And waiting to generously give it.
I want you to know that he certainly can and will give you the wisdom you need right now. And I need this reminder, too. However, it doesn’t always quite show up as an audible word for me either most of the time. But if you open your soul to the Lord, seek him wholeheartedly, and patiently listen for his reply, you can trust what he tenderly lays on your heart. Spend some time right now speaking with him about what you need clarity on. Linger in his presence and listen. And keep listening. See where you sense his Spirit begins steering. He is faithful and will respond with promptings and pourings of truth over your purely seeking soul.
YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER
Faithful Lord,
You are my almighty, wonderful counselor. Always ready, willing, and able to generously share your wisdom with me. I know I often forget to come to you or neglect to sit with you long enough to truly listen to your loving nudges and instructions. But I will long to follow your ways and your good path for my life. I know no matter where you lead me, I can trust it will be used for good. Help me to trust that truth. Help me to seek you, listen for you, and wait for you with all my heart. You are faithful, trustworthy, and so so good. In Jesus' blessed name,
Amen.
THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON
1. Have you been seeking God more than a person for guidance? And are you truly consulting him with a humble, unhurried heart?
2. Do you sense a specific stirring toward a certain decision or next step?
3. How would it change the condition of your soul if you knew that when you are truly seeking God, you can trust that he is leading you?
