10 Prayers That Will Transform Your Finances

Jennifer Slattery

Does the state of your finances accelerate your pulse? Does your brain crunch numbers each night long after you’re supposed to be asleep? Now is the time to turn to God and pray over your finances.

It’s hard to give generously or participate in short term missions when we already feel financial strains. We can’t fully experience the abundant life Christ promised if we’re buried in debt and enslaved to our fluctuating checkbook.

If financial fears dominate your thoughts, be encouraged! Jesus isn’t just the God of our salvation. He’s our Jehovah-Jireh—our provider, guide, and ever-present help, and He longs to lead us into deeper levels of freedom in every area, including our finances. Here are 10 prayers for finances that can help you align your heart and financial practices with God’s perfect will.

1. Lord, help me trust You with my finances.

Lord, help me trust You with my finances. I know that You are the provider of all good things and that You have a plan for my financial well-being. Guide my decisions and help me to be wise with the resources You have given me. Show me how to manage my money in a way that honors You.

Change my heart toward money and spending. Teach me to find contentment in You. Help me to be generous with what I have, knowing that You will provide for my needs. Give me peace and confidence that You are in control of my financial situation. In Your Son's Name, Amen.

The solution is redirecting our thoughts. Asking God to help and then choosing to trust He will. When chaos hits, we can feel as if we’re victims to our circumstances—and our anxiety. But as we draw near to Christ in prayer, His Holy Spirit empowers, emboldens, and soothes, reminding us that He is our Jehovah-Jireh (Genesis 22:14), and will meet all our needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).

2. Lord, grant some type of debt relief.

Heavenly Father, I ask for Your help in eliminating my debts. I feel overwhelmed by the financial burdens I am carrying, and I need Your divine intervention. Give me the discipline and strategy to pay off what I owe and the wisdom to avoid future debt.

Provide me with the resources and opportunities to increase my income and manage my expenses effectively. Help me to find joy and peace even in the midst of financial struggles, knowing that You are my provider and deliverer. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

3. Lord, grant me contentment.

Heavenly Father, grant me contentment with what I have. Help me to avoid the pitfalls of greed and envy, focusing instead on the blessings You have already bestowed upon me. Teach me to live within my means and to make financial decisions that reflect Your wisdom.

Lord, give me wisdom in my financial dealings. Help me to discern between needs and wants, and to prioritize my spending accordingly. Guide me as I budget, save, and invest, ensuring that my financial practices honor You and provide for my family's future. In Christ's Name, Amen.

For Paul, the apostle who wrote the oft-quoted passage on learning the secret of being content when in plenty or in want, that meant cultivating joy while imprisoned and gratitude for whatever sliver of bread God provided.

That might seem harsh, perhaps even unrealistic, but it’s interesting to note, Paul is also the man who wrote Philippians, the book on joy.

Could it be that contentment paves the way for joy, and in the process, financial freedom?

4. Lord, give me a financial breakthrough.

Dear God, I pray for a financial breakthrough in my life. I have been struggling with my finances, and I need Your miraculous intervention. Open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing that I cannot contain.

Help me to trust in Your timing and to remain faithful even when things seem bleak. Strengthen my faith and give me the patience to wait for Your provision. Thank You for Your love and care, and for the financial blessings that are on the way. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

5. Lord, give me a generous heart with what I have been given.

Dear Lord, cultivate a spirit of generosity within me. Help me to give freely and joyfully to those in need, trusting that You will supply all my needs according to Your riches. Teach me to see the abundance in my life and to share it with others.

Bless my finances so that I can be a blessing to others. Guide me to support worthy causes and to make a positive impact in my community. Let my generosity reflect Your love and bring glory to Your name. Amen.

Everything we have belongs to God to be used by Him for His glory. In light of this, consider Jesus’ words in Luke 16: 11-12, “So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?”

6. God, provide stability.

Dear God, I come before You today asking for Your provision. You know my financial needs and the burdens I carry. I ask that You provide abundant provision and financial stability. Break every chain of lack and help me to experience Your blessings in my life.

Father, I trust that You will meet all my needs according to Your riches in glory. Help me to remain patient and faithful as I wait for Your provision. Thank You for the ways You have already provided, and I look forward to seeing Your continued work in my finances. In Your Son's Name, Amen.

7. Jesus, help me persevere under financial stress.

Lord, grant me peace in my financial situation. Help me to let go of anxiety and fear, trusting that You are in control. Give me the wisdom to make sound financial decisions and the courage to take steps toward financial freedom.

Fill my heart with contentment and gratitude for what I have. Help me to be patient and persistent in managing my finances. Thank You for Your constant presence and provision in my life. May Your peace that surpasses all understanding guard my heart and mind. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Creating a workable budget can be challenging. Living according to that budget for more than a few months can feel practically impossible, especially if we are attempting to climb out of debt. Spending habits take time to change, and though the tug to impulse shop might grow easier, I suspect, in our consumerism culture where we’re bombarded with messages to buy-buy-buy, we’ll always find it difficult to choose frugality over momentary pleasures.

Focusing on long-term goals, like buying or paying off a house or saving up for a vacation can help. As can praying for the strength to persevere, even if we find ourselves eating boxed macaroni and cheese more times than we care to count.

8. God, help me align my priorities with Yours.

Lord Jesus, increase my faith in Your promises. Your Word says that if we ask anything in Your name, You will give it to us. Today, I ask for financial blessings and breakthroughs. Help me to believe in Your power to transform my financial situation.

Guide me to take the necessary actions to improve my finances. Give me the motivation to work hard, the wisdom to make smart financial decisions, and the courage to pursue opportunities that come my way. Let my actions reflect my faith in Your provision. Amen.

Material pleasures aren’t sinful, but if we value accessories more than helping to fund the expansion of God’s kingdom, our appearance has a greater piece of our heart than Christ does. In Matthew 6:24 Jesus told us what happens when we chase after material wealth while attempting to serve Christ. “Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other,” He said. “You cannot serve both God and money.”

9. Jesus, help me develop a long-term focus for my finances.

Heavenly Father, I entrust my long-term financial situation to Your capable hands. You are the source of all blessings and the provider of every need. Guide me to be a good steward of the resources You have given me, helping me to manage my finances wisely and prudently. Teach me to plan and save for the future, always seeking Your wisdom and guidance in every financial decision. Help me to live within my means, avoiding debt and making choices that honor You.

Lord, I ask for Your favor and blessings on my financial endeavors. Provide me with opportunities for growth and increase, leading me to paths of prosperity and abundance. Protect me from financial pitfalls and grant me discernment in my investments and expenditures. May my financial health be a testament to Your goodness and provision, and may I use my resources to bless others and advance Your kingdom. Amen.

In life and finances the old adage, “pay now or pay later,” holds true. Scripture puts it this way, “A hard worker has plenty of food, but a person who chases fantasies ends up in poverty” (Proverbs 28:19, NLT). Granted, sometimes life hits hard, and financial difficulties hit despite our most diligent efforts, but focusing on where we want to be tomorrow, not simply what would make us happy today, makes economic stability more probable.

10. God, center my thoughts and heart on the things of eternity.

Dear Lord, I come before You seeking to center my thoughts on what is eternal rather than what is temporary. Help me to understand that Your goal for my life is not just temporary survival but eternal significance. Guide my mind and heart to focus on Your everlasting promises and the eternal life You offer. Let me see beyond the fleeting comforts of this world and fix my eyes on the eternal joy and peace that comes from knowing You. Grant me the wisdom to discern what truly matters and to align my life with Your eternal purposes. In Your Son's Name, Amen.

I’ve never been great at self-denial, and honestly, there are times when saving that dollar today so I can enjoy 10 tomorrow doesn’t feel like reason enough—especially when my favorite coffee drink is on the line! Though my heart longs for things of enduring value, I’m easily pulled in by whatever screams the loudest or flashes the brightest. But then Jesus reminds me of my ultimate and most fulfilling purpose—to play a part in His redemptive mission—and suddenly all those items that once captivated me, suddenly fade as eternity shifts into focus.

Because when I’m standing in front of my Savior, and He asks me, “What did you do with the gifts I gave you,” I’d like to be able to say more than simply, “I drank a lot of really great coffee.”
