Scripture shares about some of the lives of sisters. The Bible tells of two sisters named Martha and Mary. Each sister chose a different way to welcome Jesus into the home (Luke 10:38-42).
Mary sat at the feet of Jesus and listened to what He said. Martha wanted the house to be perfect. She chose to make the home clean and ready for Jesus. We learn the lesson of what is truly important to Jesus. He tells Martha that she is worried about many things. Mary has chosen to listen to God. Imagine the scene described in Scripture. Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus and Martha running around trying to make the home look nice. Both sisters were preparing for the arrival of Jesus, yet, in different ways.
Another Scripture shares how the mother of Jesus and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, were there at the crucifixion (John 19:25). A family filled with heartache as they witnessed their dear loved one on the cross. These two sisters stood together and watched as Jesus was hung on the cross and crucified. Imagine how they may have held each other close as they witnessed that event.
Have you heard the words “sisters in Christ”? We have the opportunity to pray for and bless our biological sisters and those women whom we call “sisters in Christ.” There may be no physical connection, yet the bond of sisterhood can be found in sharing time, conversation, fellowship, and prayer. Sisters are of all ages, and we are given the way to bless those sisters through our relationship with God.
Praying and asking God to bless our sisters and to cover them with His love and protection can bring peace and comfort. Whether we share the prayers out loud with our sisters, pray them quietly or write the prayers, God knows our hearts and He will answer according to His plan.
Asking God to bless our sisters and “sisters in Christ” opens the door for everyone to draw closer to Him.
I’m the baby. Yes, I am the third child born to my parents. I have two older sisters; one is 12 years older than me and one 17 years older than me. Three daughters in our family. I am thankful to share a prayer for my sister. Prayers for both of my sisters are an important part of the day.
My sisters and I are blessed with a loving connection that grows every day. I am thankful God gave me two amazing sisters. I value their wisdom, compassion, and how they share the love with others. The three sisters have unique and distinct personalities. God created each of us and gave us special gifts and talents. I am blessed by the ways my sisters show their love for the Lord.
Whether you have a sister living close by, or a sister who lives far away, remember to lift her up in prayer every day. Write a note, make a phone call, send a text, or visit your sister in person. Share conversation and prayer time. Thank your sister for the ways she has influenced your life.
Sometimes we get caught up in the busyness of the day and forget to thank the ones we love.
I want to say a special “thank you” to my two wonderful sisters, Glenda and Carol.
