Maybe your day has just started and your thoughts are already beginning to race with anxiety or perhaps it's the middle of the night and you're struggling to find rest...whatever season of difficulty you're facing, the enemy is attacking your peace of mind. In those overwhelming moments, as your mind fills with fear, the best place to turn for comfort is an intimate relationship with God through reciting a prayer for peace. We are not meant to try to control and fix everything that worries us - we were created to rest in God's love!
We cannot always control the things that rob us of peace of mind, but we can control how we respond. These prayers for peace of mind and calmness can provide the words to help you release your cares and concerns to the one who created you. Whether you recite these prayers word for word or use them to guide your personal requests, God promises to meet us in our need and lift our burdens.
Philippians 4:6-7 tells us "do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, BY PRAYER, with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." The peace of God is a promise we can receive when we pray! If you are struggling with finding the words to pray to bring calm and peace of mind, feel free to read these prayers out loud and make them your own.
There are several passages in the Bible that address the concept of peace of mind and what it means for us today. According to the Bible, peace of mind refers to a state of inner tranquility, trust, and contentment that comes from a deep relationship with God and aligning one's thoughts and actions with His will. Prayer is the most powerful away to align yourself with God's will. Here are some more Bible verses that speak to this idea:
1. Isaiah 26:3 (NIV): "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you."
2. John 14:27 (NIV): "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
3. Psalm 29:11 (NIV): "The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace."
4. Colossians 3:15 (NIV): "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful."
Scripture emphasizes that peace of mind is a gift from God that can be experienced through prayer, trust in Him, and aligning one's thoughts and actions with His teachings. It is a sense of inner calm and assurance that transcends external circumstances and is rooted in faith and relationship with God.
Heavenly Father, please grant me peace of mind and calm my troubled heart. My soul is like a turbulent sea. I can’t seem to find my balance so I stumble and worry constantly. Give me the strength and clarity of mind to find my purpose and walk the path you’ve laid out for me. I trust your Love God, and know that you will heal this stress. Just as the sun rises each day against the dark of night. Please bring me clarity with the light of God.
In your name I pray, Amen.
Lord, I thank You for placing Your wonderful, powerful, protective peace in my life. I am grateful that You have positioned it to stand at the entrance of my heart and mind and that it dominates my mind and controls my life. Because what is inside me is what rules me, I choose to let this peace rise up and conquer me. With this peace standing at the gate of my heart and mind, I know it will disable the devil's ability to attack my emotions and will not permit his lies and accusations to slip into my mind! Thank You for loving me enough to put this powerful peace in my life! I pray this in Jesus' name!
I confess that I am guarded and protected by the powerful peace of God that works in my life. It rises up to dominate my mind; it controls my thinking; and it determines the condition of my life and the environment where I live and work. I am unaffected by the circumstances that surround me, for this supernatural peace stands at the gate of my mind and emotions to monitor everything that tries to access me. Because no fretting, anxiety, panic, or worry is allowed to enter me, I remain free, calm, and peaceful - even in difficult situations that in the past would have upset me! I declare this by faith in Jesus' name! (Rick Renner)
Lord, I know that Satan created the spirit of fear, anxiety, doubt, and worries to torture and entrap my mind and rob me of my joy, peace, and sleep. When what-ifs wake me in the dark of night, please help me to denounce Satan and remember 1 Peter 5:7 where you say internal peace is as simple as casting all my anxiety on you because you care for me.
I am comforted that you see into the depths of my heart and the intricacies of my mind where unhealthy fears dwell. You already know what’s troubling me, but you want to hear me share my concerns with you to release the stronghold grip they have on my thoughts and emotions.
Father, I trust that you don’t want me to waste a moment of my life fretting. Please calm my racing heart and fill my troubled mind with hope and my spirit with peace. Assure me that no weapon formed against me will prosper and you have a plan and a purpose for me in this time of turmoil.
Show me your ways Lord and grant me the courage to follow where you lead. Amen. (Janet Thompson)
It’s not exactly clear when this prayer was written. The prayer was first discovered in a small French magazine called “The Little Bell”. It gained popularity in the United States during World War 2 when it was distributed to soldiers and civilians by the millions on little prayer cards.
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled,
as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
Amen.
Lord, as I pray with confidence and great expectation, I anticipate your gracious answers to my prayers. When I remember your faithfulness to all generations, excitement and eagerness replace concern and discouragement.
Please help me to remember that doubt and faith can’t coexist in my heart. If I’m doubting or anxious, my shield of faith has slipped. God, I know that you’re looking at the big picture and I can only see a small glimpse distorted by my confusion and perspective. I realize that having faith doesn’t mean there won’t be setbacks or difficult times, but if I’m going to enlist your mighty powers, then I must prayerfully trust that your will is done on earth as it is in heaven. I pray for a miracle of your design.
Your answer isn’t always what I want to hear, or the option I was hoping for, but whatever it is I will give you the glory because regardless of the outcome my eternity is with you. Thank you Lord, for your Son, Jesus Christ, enduring the brutal cross for victory over our sins and sicknesses. I claim that victory in my life and for my loved ones. Amen. (Janet Thompson)
Dear God, Some days feel too hard. We’re hurting. Struggling. Fighting fear and worry at every turn. Thank you in the midst of it all, you haven’t left us to fend for ourselves. Forgive us for doubting you are there. Forgive us for thinking you’ve forgotten. Forgive us for believing we somehow know the better way.
You are fully trustworthy. You are All-Powerful. You are Able. You are Lord over every situation no matter how difficult it may seem. You are Healer and will never waste the grief we carry today. You will use all things for good in some way. Anything is possible with you. Nothing is too difficult for you.
We pray for those who grieve today. We ask for your comfort to surround those who weep. We pray for the peace of your presence to cover our minds and thoughts, as you remind us, the enemy can never steal us out of your hands. He never has the final say over our lives. We are kept safe in your presence forever, whether in life or in death.
We thank you that your ways are higher than our ways and your thoughts are bigger than our thoughts.
We lay it all down at your feet, every burden, every care. Believing that is the safest place for it to be.
We love you, Lord, we need your fresh grace. In the Powerful Name of Jesus, Amen. (Debbie McDaniel)
Dear Jesus, I need your peace. I believe that you died for my sins, and that God raised you from the dead so that by believing in you I can have peace with God and life in your Name. Forgive me for allowing the cares of this world to obscure my spiritual vision.
I confess that I have not been trusting your plan for my life and the lives of my loved ones. You have given me peace that brings restoration, wholeness, and rest to my soul. I have allowed the trials of this life to lock me into a spirit of fear, robbing me of the peace that is mine in Christ.
Forgive me, Lord. Right now, I confess my fears and my worries to you. I declare that you did not give me a spirit of fear or cowardice! You gave me a spirit of power, and of love, and of soundness of mind and judgement. (2 Timothy 1:7)
I know that rejoicing and delighting in you is a safeguard for my spirit. (Philippians 3:1) Please help me to practice the discipline of thanksgiving every day, so that I will be filled with your peace. (Now, give God thanks, allowing thanksgiving to give way to rejoicing and praise.) Thank you, Lord, that I can come to you with prayers and thanksgiving; in return you give me peace that is supreme over my worries.
I ask for that peace to fill me now, let it watch over and protect my heart. (Philippians 4:6-7) Let your peace have authority in my heart, because that is your calling for me. (Colossians 3:15) Give me the courage I need to tell others about you, so that they may also have peace with God and peace from God.
In Jesus’ Precious Name. Amen. (Andrea Herzer)
Lord, we won’t live in a perfect world until we join you in heaven. This current situation won’t be the last crisis for the world or for me. I can’t outrun, outpace, outdo, outsmart, or outlive trouble. It has a way of popping up even in the good and prosperous seasons in the culture, my life, and the lives of those around me.
Lord, quiet my raging emotions so that I can be a beacon of healing love and peace to those in my sphere of influence who are overwhelmed by panic and fear. Please help me memorize John 14:1 to share with others who ask me where my peace comes from: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.” These are the words that your Son Jesus spoke to His disciples to comfort them and they also give me comfort when I don’t know how the story ends.
Use me Lord as your disciple to bring healing to a hurting world. I love you Lord, Amen. (Janet Thompson)
Dear Heavenly Father, This my one word prayer: peace.
I can't see ahead. I don't know what to do. Here are all my fears and my questions... (share yours).
I want to experience your perfect peace. Let it be with me. Just as you say.
Hold me, God, so I can hear you whisper to me, "You don't have to know the way. I do." In Jesus name, Amen. (Bonnie Grey)
Lord, I am so thankful today that You haven't abandoned me to my flesh and my emotions! Because Your Spirit lives in me, I can be empowered to walk in joy and peace in any situation. Forgive me for pandering to the whims of my flesh and for allowing it to rant and rave when Your Spirit inside me is longing to cause His supernatural joy and peace to rule my life. I turn from my past habits of worry and fear, and I deliberately choose to let the Holy Spirit flood me with Your unquenchable joy and incomprehensible peace!
I declare this by faith in Jesus' name! (Rick Renner)

Almighty God, We bless you for our lives, we give you praise for your abundant mercy and grace we receive. We thank you for your faithfulness even though we are not that faithful to you. Lord Jesus, we ask you to give us all around peace in our mind, body, soul and spirit.
We want you to heal and remove everything that is causing stress, grief, and sorrow in our lives.
Please guide our path through life and make our enemies be at peace with us. Let your peace reign in our family, at our place of work, businesses and everything we lay our hands on.
Let your angels of peace go ahead of us when we go out and stay by our side when we return. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Lord, bring me peace in my heart. At times my life seems clouded with doubt and anxiety, so many paths, which one to choose. And yet the choices must be made and the path must be walked if we are not to stay still.
Allow me to be brave, Lord. Allow me to be open to all the possibilties in my life. Allow me to walk the road that radiates with most joy and happiness. When my mind is clouded bring me into the sunshine and remove my worries. Allow me to see the path that is right for me and walk it with courage and integrity.
